About Us
Welcome to Rainbowglitter Chinchilla Persians.
We are TICA registered breeders of Chinchilla Persians and have had the pleasure of owning this amazing breed since 2007.
We breed with our kittens health and temperament in mind. We strive for a moderate dollface so our kittens can live happy healthy lives without the risk of developing conditions related to extremely flat faces. For more on this issue please read our Breeding Goals and Ethics section below.

Our Breeding Goals and Ethics
In 2007, we set off on a mission to get our perfect type of chinchilla Persian with balanced features true to the breed standard but with health in mind.
We felt that, in some cases, the breed had gone too extreme in type with faces that are too flat.
This extreme ultra type can lead to many health problems including breathing problems, dental problems, deformed jaws, difficulties eating or grooming, irritation and ulceration of the eyes and face, eye drainage problems and in some cases brachycephalic ocular disease, brachycephalic eye syndrome.
These conditions can cause prolonged and often severe pain throughout the cat's life and we could see no justification for this as Persian cats would have never evolved this way naturally and it is only through human selective breeding that this has occurred.
We wanted to maintain the Persian rounded cobby type whilst also keeping a sweet expression and slightly open face which enables normal breathing and eye drainage so our kittens can be happy and healthy as well as looking gorgeous!
It took many years to get the features we wanted but it has been well worth the effort.
The health and wellbeing of our cats and kittens has always been a priority so in addition to the above we only use PKD PRA negative lines in our breeding program.
We also only breed true chinchilla colours silver and gold and do not mix with other Persian lines in order to maintain pattern and the true chinchilla eye colour and markings.
We feel that breeding to non chinchilla colours is contributing to the loss of the pure chinchilla lines and is resulting in poor quality kittens that do not meet either breed standard. The mesmerizing chinchilla green or aqua eye colour is lost as is the beautiful shimmering copper of the standard Persian colours and in its place a rather dull washed out eye colour.
The tabby markings of the chinchilla are also lost causing the loss of eye liners, nose and lip liners characteristic of the chinchilla breed and it also dilutes the inhibitor genes leading to darker badly marked coats.
Please help us stop bad breeding practices!
We are very selective in our breeding and will sometimes pause to allow our older cats to retire and to evaluate our lines. Returning from a break in 2019, I was deeply saddened to find that the situation for this beautiful breed is now even more dire than it was before.
I was shocked to see a market flooded with low quality, untested, cross bred unregistered unvaccinated kittens often being sold at ridiculously high prices. These kittens being marketed as Chinchilla Persians were not recognisable as such! These unscrupulous breeding practices I fear are causing irreparable damage to this stunning breed as too many quality bloodlines have been destroyed.
I would urge anyone wanting to buy a kitten, please do not encourage such practices by buying kittens from such places. Yes, sometimes these kittens may be slightly cheaper (often they are not!) but it is not worth the risk of buying a potentially unhealthy, poor quality kitten from someone who simply does not care about the welfare of their animals.
Please please do not buy a kitten from anyone who is willing to sell you an unvaccinated kitten or a kitten less than 10 weeks old.
Do not buy unregistered pedigree kittens as this encourages very bad unregulated practices . There is no guarantee that these kittens are even purebred. Most likely they are not. Many of these cats are not of the required quality, they are not health checked and, therefore, may not produce healthy kittens to the breed standard.
Cross breeding untested cats from different breeds does not improve the health of either breed or create genetic resilience, it potentially introduces hereditary problems from both breeds into these kittens which is why we are seeing a crossover of PKD into breeds that did not have this issue and HCM into the Persian lines brought in from, for example, Ragdolls and Maine Coons. These are NOT designer breeds, they are simply mixed breeds created by individuals who have no interest in either breed and whose motivations are purely money.
A breeder who will sell kittens to anyone willing to pay with no vetting or care for the future welfare of their kittens and a breeder willing to breed from unregistered cats is not in it for the good of the breed or their cats and cause untold damage. These breeders will do anything to make money including over breeding, cutting corners in the quality of care, selling unvaccinated unregistered kittens, feeding a poor diet etc.
So please, do not support these practices, there are genuine breeders who care for their cats and their breed, support those or consider visiting a shelter and adopting a rescue kitten.
